Alternator mounting

After looking at many Stalker builds, I am wondering why the alternator is mounted backwards when it appears there is enough room to mount it close to the drivers side cylinder head in a normal fashion.

The alternator on my Stalker Classic is mounted low on the passenger side. It's a tight fit, but it works fine. I do not believe it would fit on newer cars with the inboard shocks.

The inboard shocks are well forward of the front of the engine, but if that were an issue, then there would be even less room for it to be flipped around as it is in many present builds
