Being a noob, I'm still digesting the YouTube videos and anything else I can glean about how a stalker handles. Of course most of what I see are Caterhams and they appear to handle quite well; many seem to keep up with the supercars thru the twisty bits. I realize it's hard to tell since you can't really be sure what the supercar driver's skill level is, but I am impressed. And I see things like Beachum running a 25 hrs of Thunderhill team twice and doing consistent 2:00 laps with a 175 HP Caterham and the like. So overall, I think it's safe to conclude they can handle quite predictably at the limit.

So my question is, has Dennis, Scott or anyone done a side by side test Top Gear style? If not have they talked about significant chassis differences between the last of the Brunton design (2012) and the newer Caterham models? differences that would translate to driving the cars differently?

Just trying to guess sitting in here in the middle of whats likely to be a long winter and wondering how I'll be able to drive my SS on track and will my it drift predictably if I want it too? So fire away with any facts or even wild speculation. Thanks.

Last I checked, only the top Caterham models had full independent & inboard suspension, and you might be hard pressed to find a willing participant to compare their $100k+ Cat to any M-Spec flavor.  The AXR's results in autocross this year at SCCA nationals speak to the M-Spec handling capabilities, and I don't think any Cat has ever gotten as close to the 1st place time as Jason did in his AXR.

I guess my point is this: I speculate that an M-Spec would out-handle just about any Caterham out there, and until one of the major car reviewing media outfits adds a Stalker to the mix, we'll never have an official answer.

Being RWD, front-engined, and pretty even weight distribution, it drifts very predictably.  My car has only spun out of control once (with me in the passenger seat), due to an instructor failing to take into account the lack of ABS and his affinity for smashing the brake pedal in anger in a very high speed braking zone.

In other words, your SS will be a great track weapon...huge fun.

That's my conclusion too: I speculate that buyers choose Caterham for the pedigree and/or fit & finish.
